(A) Cabinet Approves ‘Vigyan Dhara’ Scheme
About:
The Union Cabinet of India approved the continuation of three umbrella schemes merged into one unified central sector scheme named ‘Vigyan Dhara‘ of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
Scheme Components:
The ‘Vigyan Dhara‘ scheme comprises of three components:
- Science and Technology (S&T) Institutional and Human Capacity Building
- Research and Development
- Innovation, Technology Development, and Deployment
Budget:
The scheme ‘Vigyan Dhara‘ is allocated Rs. 10,579.84 crore for the 15th Finance Commission period which is 2021-22 to 2025-26.
Objectives:
The ‘Vigyan Dhara’ scheme aims to strengthen the Science, Technology, and Innovation ecosystem by enhancing S&T capacity, fostering R&D labs, and promoting innovation across the country.

(B) Cabinet Approves BioE3 Policy
About:
The Union Cabinet of India has approved the BioE3 Policy (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment) aimed at fostering high-performance biomanufacturing under the Department of Biotechnology.
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) is a government department under the Ministry of Science and Technology in India. The DBT was established in 1986.
(C) Government Approves Unified Pension Scheme (UPS)
The Indian government has approved a new Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), offering Assured Pension and Assured Family Pension benefits to around 23 lakh central government employees.
The Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has informed the media about the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).
The central government employees will have notice of choice between the National Pension Scheme (NPS) and Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).
About Unified Pension Scheme:
- Assured Pension: 50% of the average basic pay over the last 12 months before retirement, with a minimum of 25 years of service. For shorter service periods, it’s proportionate.
- Assured Family Pension: 60% of the employee’s pension before their demise.
- Assured Minimum Pension: Rs. 10,000 per month after at least 10 years of service.
(D) Indian Olympian Bhawna Jat gets 16 Months Ban by NADA
Indian race walker Bhawna Jat has been banned for 16 months by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for whereabouts failures.
(E) Shikhar Dhawan announced retirement
Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket.
(F) The Ministry of Coal launched the National Coal Mines Safety Report Portal
The Ministry of Coal has launched the National Coal Mines Safety Report Portal to improve safety conditions in coal mines.
The safety report portal includes two main modules: The accident Module and the Safety Audit Module.
(G) MeitY signs MoUs with various industry partners and inaugurates an advanced Hardware Facility at C-DAC
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has signed multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with industry partners to strengthen collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).
Also, MeitY has inaugurated a Hardware Emulation Facility at C-DAC’s Vellayambalam Campus which is aimed at advancing indigenous development and testing of hardware designs in VLSI and SoC technologies.
(H) India and Sri Lanka Concluded the Regional Military Exercise ‘Mitra Shakti’
The 10th Edition of the joint military exercise ‘Mitra Shakti‘ of the India and Sri Lanka army has concluded at Maduru Oya Army Training School (ATS) grounds, Sri Lanka.
(I) India’s First Reusable Hybrid Rocket ‘RHUMI-1’ Launched
India’s first reusable hybrid rocket, Rhumi-1, was launched from Chennai by the Tamil Nadu-based startup Space Zone India.
The project aims to advance research on global warming and climate change.
The rocket carried 3 cube satellites and 50 pico satellites during the launch.
