Countdown and ISRO Chandrayaan-3 Mission, Passes Away
- Renowned Scientist N. Valarmathi, Who Provided Countdown Announcements During Several ISRO Rocket Launch Missions, Including Chandrayaan-3, Passes Away; Reportedly Due to a Heart Attack.
- Note: Chandrayaan-3 was launched on July 14, 2023. On August 23, 2023, the Vikram Lander successfully performed a soft landing on the South Pole of the Moon. On August 24, the Pragyan Rover descended from the Vikram Lander onto the lunar surface.
- The current Chairman of ISRO is Shri S. Somanath.
2. The Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover of Chandrayaan-3 have entered ‘sleep mode’
- The Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover have been placed in sleep mode by ISRO. This is because the Moon experiences nights for several days, during which the temperature on the lunar surface drops significantly.
- Before entering sleep mode, the Vikram Lander performed a second soft landing, during which it lifted itself up about 40 centimeters from its initial landing site and landed again approximately 30 to 40 centimeters away.
- Note: The full name of ISRO is the Indian Space Research Organisation. ISRO’s headquarters is located in Bengaluru. ISRO was established on August 15, 1969. Vikram Sarabhai is the founder of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
3. President Draupadi Murmu unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near Rajghat in New Delhi.

4. India to host the G-20 Summit for the first time.
- India is set to host the 18th G-20 Summit in New Delhi in 2023.
- The G-20, also known as the Group of Twenty, is a forum of 19 member countries and the European Union. The summit’s theme for 2023 is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” emphasizing the idea of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
- The member countries of the G-20 include France, China, Brazil, India, Argentina, the United Kingdom, South Korea, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Japan, Indonesia, the United States, Italy, Canada, Australia, Germany, Russia, Turkey, and the European Union.
- The presidency of the G-20 rotates annually among member countries, and India currently holds the presidency from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023.
- Last year, the G-20 Summit in 2022 was hosted by Indonesia.

5. Praveena Anjana from Udaipur, Rajasthan, has won the title of Miss International India 2023.
- Note: The capital of Rajasthan is Jaipur, and the current Chief Minister of Rajasthan is Ashok Gehlot.
6. Mohan Bagan Super Giant won the Durand Cup 2023 by defeating East Bengal.
- At Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium, Mohan Bagan Super Giant defeated East Bengal 1-0 to win the Durand Cup 2023 trophy. With this victory, Mohan Bagan Super Giant became the first team to win 17 Durand Cup titles. East Bengal has 16 titles to their name.
- The Durand Cup is an annual Indian football tournament. The Durand Cup was first organized in the year 1888 in Shimla.
7. Actor R. Madhavan has been appointed as the Chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society and the President of its Governing Council.
