ASI launches “Adopt a Heritage 2.0” program to preserve the India’s Cultural Legacy
Key Points:
- The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), responsible for preserving 3,696 cultural monuments across India, launched its ‘Adopt a Heritage’ program as ‘Adopt a Heritage 2.0’ on September 4, 2023, at the Samvet Auditorium, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi.
- Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Development of North Eastern Region, G. Kishan Reddy, in conjunction with Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi, officially inaugurated the program.
- This “Adopt a Heritage 2.0” program encourages corporate stakeholders for the preservation and improving the facilities of these cultural heritage sites by using their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.
- The first ‘Adopt A Heritage’ program was launched on 27 September 2017 on World Tourism Day. And it clearly outlines the facilities required for various monuments in accordance with The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act (AMASR Act) of 1958.
- A dedicated mobile application called “Indian Heritage” was also launched during the event, which contains state-wise details of heritage sites, geotagged locations, photographs and monuments.

Amit S Telang has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Guyana
Key Points:
- Amit S. Telang, an Indian Foreign Services (IFS) officer of 2005 batch, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner to the Guyana officially named as Co-operative Republic of Guyana.
- At the time of his appointment, Amit S Telang was fulfilling his role as the Consul General at the Consulate General of India in Frankfurt.
- The Capital of Guyana is Georgetown.
PM Modi Arrives in Jakarta for ASEAN-India and East Asia Summits
Key Points:
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, to participate in the ASEAN-India and East Asia summits.
- The 20th ASEAN-India Summit focuses on partnership of both countries.
- The 18th East Asia summit will focus on digital innovations and healthcare.
- ASEAN stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations. ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 aiming for economic development, cultural development and peace in Southeast Asian region. The headquarters of ASEAN is located in Jakarta, Indonesia.
- The member countries of ASEAN are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR (People’s Democratic Republic), Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam.
- The ASEAN-India was officially established in 1992, when India became a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN.
- The East Asia Summit is a regional forum comprising 18 participating countries that collaborate on economic, social, and political issues in the Asia-Pacific region.
- The East Asia Summit includes eighteen member nations, consisting of ten ASEAN Member States (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam), along with Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia, and the United States of America.
Paytm Introduces New Card Soundbox for UPI and Debit or Credit card Contactless Payments
Paytm India has recently launched a Paytm Card Soundbox, which is designed to empower the merchants to accept UPI and Card payments, which includes Mastercard, RuPay, Visa and American Express cards.
- This card soundbox has ‘tap and pay’ solution for credit and debit card transaction.
- The previous soundbox had a QR code for UPI payments, but this new soundbox accepts the card payments also with real-time audio alerts for transactions.
- This device is a combination of UPI QR code, NFC or contactless debit and credit card payments system and for transaction alert it provides audio and visual confirmation by LCD.
- The customer can pay to the merchants up to 5,000 INR. It offers alert in 11 regional languages.
Scientists of IIT Jodhpur Develops ‘CODE’ Device for Enhanced Indoor Air Quality
- Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur have developed the ‘CODE’ device for enhancing indoor air quality.
- ‘CODE’ stands for Cold-plasma Detergent in Environment and has been extensively tested to deactivate over 99.99% of harmful pathogens in indoor environments.
