Director of Special Protection Group (SPG), Arun Kumar Sinha, Passes Away at 61

- Arun Kumar Sinha, Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG), passed away at the age of 61.
- He was the longest-serving chief in the history of the SPG, having held the position since 2016.
- Mr. Sinha’s career in the IPS began in 1987 in the Kerala cadre.
- The SPG was initially created in 1985 to provide security to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers, and their families.
- Its mandate later changed to focus solely on the serving Prime Minister.
World Physiotherapy Day 2023 Focuses on Arthritis Management

Hitachi Payment Services launched India’s first UPI-ATM

- The UPI-ATM was launched by Hitachi Payment Services in collaboration with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) at the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai.

Kapdaganda Shawls and Koraput Kalajeera Rice Obtain GI Tags

- Kapdaganda shawls, handcrafted by the Dongria Kondh community, symbolize tradition and craftsmanship.
- They’re on the path to getting a GI tag after Niyamgiri Dongria Kondh Weavers’ Association (NDKWA) and the Directorate of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute applied for recognition.
- The GI authority has officially advertised it, pending objections, for three months.
Koraput Kalajeera Rice:
- Koraput’s Kalajeera Rice, now, holds a GI tag.
- It is popular for its unique traits, including its black color, aroma, taste, and health benefits.
- The Odisha government supported its GI tag application, and it was officially granted on August 31, 2023.
What is GI Tag?
- GI stands for Geographical Indication Certification.
- It’s given to products that come from a specific place and have special qualities tied to that area.
- To get a GI tag, the product must clearly represent its geographic origin.
- GI tags cover various kinds of products like food, agricultural items, crafts, and more.
