International Youth Day is celebrated on 12 August annually. This day is observed to celebrate the contribution of the youth in the development of society while highlighting the challenges they face around the world.
International Youth Day: History
In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared that 12 August would be celebrated as International Youth Day. This decision to observe International Youth Day on 12 August came after the recommendation of the World Conference of Ministers of Youth in Lisbon, in 1998.
The first International Youth Day was celebrated on August 12, 2000.
