Indian Wrestler Reetika Hooda loses in quarterfinal against Aiperi Medet Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan

The 21-year-old Indian wrestler Reetika Hooda who plays in the 76 Kg weight category lost the quarterfinal match against two-time world champion Wrestler Aiperi Medet Kyzy of the Kyrgyz Republic. The game ended in a 1-1 tie in Saturday’s quarterfinal event at the Paris Olympics.

However, after winning Aiperi Medet Kyzy lost the semi-final with USA’s Kennedy Blades, preventing Hooda from advancing to the repechage rounds.

Before qualifying for the quarterfinal match, Reetika defeated Hungarian wrestler Bernadett Nagy in the 76 Kg category with 12-2.

Why Did Reetika Hooda Lose the Quarterfinal Match Despite a 1-1 Tie?

The score was 1-1, but Kyrgyz Wrestler Aiperi Medet Kyzy advanced to the semi-finals because she had scored the last technical point of the match.

According to wrestling rules, if there is a tie in points, the winner is determined by a series of considerations: the highest value of holds, the fewest cautions, or the last technical point(s) scored.
