Now new students who want to take fresh admission to IGNOU can apply for the July 2024 session or students who are already studying at IGNOU can re-register for next semester. The last date to apply for admission to IGNOU or re-register yourself is 31st August 2024.

New students can apply and take admission for Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Post Graduate Diploma, Diploma, Certificate, and Awareness Programmes. The last date for the July 2024 Session is extended till 31st July 2024. The extension date applies to Open Distance Learning and Online mode.

Independence Day History: The freedom fighters of our nation paid a huge sacrifice to rule out the Britishers from our country. The sweat and blood they paid led to our nation enjoying freedom. After the British rule for more than 200 years, on 15 August 1947, our country finally gained independence.

On 15 August 1947 the day we got independence, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru unfurled the Indian Flag at the Princess Park near India Gate in New Delhi.

This year, on 15th August 2024, we will celebrate the 78th Independence Day.

15 August 1948 was the day when we celebrated our first anniversary of Independence.

Every year the Prime Minister hoists the national flag and addresses the citizens of the country from Red Fort, New Delhi.

Various cultural activities, programs, and flag-hoisting ceremonies are held in schools, colleges, offices, and other places to commemorate the day.

This year, the theme of Independence Day is “Viksit Bharat” (विकसित भारत).

Independence Day Speech for Students: Good morning to the Respected Principal Sir/Ma’am, teachers, all students, and other staff members. First of all, I want to wish you all a Happy Independence Day. Today we all are gathered here to celebrate our nation’s 78th Independence Day. This day reminds us of the sacrifice made by our freedom fighters for the independence of India from British rule. We all have our freedom and liberty because someone paid his life for it. People like Mahatma Gandhi, who believed in peaceful protest, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, and many others fought hard to make sure we could live freely.

The spark to fight for our independence started during the days of 1857 when Mangal Pandey revolted against the Britishers. The revolt of 1857 started on 10th May when the Company’s Indian soldiers at Meerut rebelled known as the Sepoy Mutiny. After that, many states joined hands together and the great revolt of 1857 took place which shivered the British throne. However, there was a lack of unity, which benefited the British army and the revolt was crushed soon.

Later our great freedom fighters came to light and taught the people about the value of freedom and unity to fight against the britishers. Later on, movements like Swadeshi Movement, Non-Cooperation Movement, Salt March also called Dandi March, Civil Disobedience Movement, and Quit India Movement took place. 

Finally, on 15 August 1947, we got freedom from the Britishers after more than 200 years.

Coming to this day, the sacrifices of our freedom fighters for the independence of this country should motivate us to work dedicatedly and contribute to the progress of the country.

Let us remember the unsung warriors, feel proud of our freedom, and celebrate Independence Day with unity and patriotism. We should commit to fulfilling our responsibilities with hard work to enhance the nation’s pride.

Who was Natwar Singh

Kunwar Natwar Singh was born in 1931 in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan.

Natwar Singh was a politician and a diplomat. Also, Natwar Singh authored multiple books including  ‘The Legacy of Nehru: A Memorial Tribute’ and ‘My China Diary 1956-88’.

K. Natwar Singh joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1953. However, in 1984, he quit the service to run for elections as a Congress member. He won the election and served as a Union minister of state until 1989.

Natwar Singh received Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India, in 1984.
